Out of curiosity, has anyone found similar statistics for the Widening grants? Wondering if they were marginally or significantly lower?

I just posted this years submission stats higher up in this thread. Anyone know if they decide the budget allocation between panels before or after the stats are released?

Found it myself after a bit of searching: "scores of proposals retained for funding range from 90.2 to 92.6" in the Widening call.

Success rate in IF for widening countries: IF 2017 8,6%
IF 2018 6,5% => 10,7% IF + WF

Interesting - thanks for the link.
But remember that a direct percentage comparison hides that each fellowship has a different dynamic. WF that don't get onto the main list get a second go - and at that point only compete among their own WF group. Due to this, they are likely to skip above other IFs that weren't part of the WF even though the other IFs scored higher. It's a good deal for those applying from WF countries.

It's a 5m€ extra quota for those applying to universities that are located in the newer member states, awarded to applications with scores that fall just under the normal MC threshold in their discipline.

I just want to share my experience being on the reserve list of the 2018 call (IF-ENV). I was short of 0.2% from the cutoff, and ranked 8 out of 49 people from the list (ALL PANELS). I didn't have much hope that my proposal would move to the funding frame that's why I resubmitted for this year's call.

But after 9 months being on the reserve list, I've been invited for a grant preparation!!! :D

Hi,

Congratulations !

Curious to know, your proposal for IF-2018 ranked 8 in your panel (i.e. ENV) or all panel? Because I got my ranking for IF-2018 for CHE Panel only. I didn't get ranking from all panel.

Best Wishes for your next position.

I've been told by the NCP that it is for all panels. There are 49 people in the list. I don't know my position in the ENV panel list though.

Hello folks.
Time for me to stop being a silent reader and jump in.

Have to disagree with people claiming that applying from a WF country is a good deal.

First point to note is that a WF country is a not a "newer member state", as claimed earlier. A WF country is one which has a very low research output. Iirc, the formal definition goes something along the lines of: a country with a "research excellence" (or some term like that, however the EU defines the term) lesser than 70% of the average of all EU member states. The reason for introducing the WF was that many countries had significantly lower acceptance rates than average, and the WF aimed to increase this.
The results from the first years of MSCA in Horizon 2020 also revealed the existence of a mobility gap across Europe and discrepancies between European countries in their ability to attract funding. To specifically address this gap in participation Widening Fellowships will provide an additional opportunity to researchers of any nationality to acquire and transfer new knowledge and to work on research and innovation in Widening countries.
In other words, on average, if you are applying from a WF, your potential supervisor, your host institute, and the NCP all will have much lesser experience in obtaining MSCA funding (and EU-level funding as a whole), compared to an application from, say, Germany or France. That puts you a sizeable disadvantage, and the WF just tries to mitigate that.
